Epilogue

Rays of Sunlight

 
Incense set a calming mood in the room. Tsuyoshi was lying down on his stomach, head supported by the palms of his hands. His legs swayed gently behind him.

 
Koichi closed his eyes, his heartbeat slowing. He brought the bamboo flute to his lips. A soothing melody permeated through the room and out into the backyard.

 
Kenshiro lay down quietly next to Tsuyoshi, both master and pet’s attention riveted on the samurai.

 
As Koichi neared the climax of the song, he was rudely interrupted by five heads popping in through the window.

 
“Ko-chan!! How romantic!” Nagase hollered and slurred at the same time. His face was flushed red, and Koichi was very sure his best friend was topless.

 
Koichi growled in irritation. “That’s ruined now, isn’t it, Nagase?”

 
“Aaw… Are you angry, Koichi?” Mabo hiccupped, resting his head on Taichi’s on the window sill.

 
“Yes, now get the hell out of my face,” Koichi spat out, absolutely fuming at his friends.

 
“Nyeeeeh!!!” Five naked butts shoved themselves through the window, and Joshima, Yamaguchi, Nagase, Mabo and Taichi ran back to their house. Koichi threw a bowl through the window, barely missing the howling group.

 
Tsuyoshi got up to bring some nice tea to sooth the samurai’s nerves.

“Hurry up, Takami! I want to go to the Johnny’s!” Kyoko whined, pulling on Takamizawa’a sleeve. Takami had gotten distracted by the new, gold-coloured yukata hanging out from Takki and Tsubasa’s textile shop.

 
“Yucali-chan, help me,” Kyoko pleaded to her best friend. Yucali sighed, ignoring them. Suddenly, Kyoko snapped. She grabbed Takami by the collar, muttering in a menacing tone, “Move, asshole.”

The Johnny’s. A road with three shophouses run by the former samurais under the fallen Lord Kitagawa Johnny.

 
On one end, was the newly renamed Domoto Kyoudai Ramen. Business was booming for Koichi and Tsuyoshi.

 
Next to it housed a musical performing group made up of Joshima, Nagase and Yamaguchi on shamisen, Mabo on drums and Taichi on clappers. Nagase doubled up as the lead singer on the group. They performed three times a day, and had a loyal following of youngsters.

 
Further down the road, was Takki and Tsubasa’s textile shop. No one really knew what to expect to see on display. One day, it could be a black yukata with delicate floral designs, which is a good indication that it was Tsubasa’s design. Other days, it would be shiny, gaudy coloured yukatas, testament of Takki’s eclectic taste.

 
Somewhere in between, was a kabuki theater set up by V6. Most people would be surprised to know that V6 is comprised by a bunch of former gangsters. Sakamoto, Nagano, Inohara, Morita, Miyake and Okada realized the error of their ways and decided to set up a kabuki to re-tell to story of Koichi’s triumph over the tyrannical Lord Kitagawa.

 
Even though they had made their peace with the two Domoto men, none of them are willing to stand any closer than 3 feet away from Koichi. Koichi found it amusing to suddenly glare at them, making them run over each other back into their theater.

 
It was never a boring day on that street, nor is it ever a boring night. More often than not, the musical performers would be running around naked and drunk at night.

 
Most times, Koichi would be behind them, threatening to chop off bits of their appendages. And bringing up the rear would always be Tsuyoshi, trying to calm Koichi down.

 
Stalking them would be V6, eager to get new materials for their next play.

“The six of you work well together. I want to put you into a group and develop a new sword-fighting style,” Koichi said thoughtfully, staring at the young men he had selected.

 
With Tsuyoshi’s blessing and encouragement, Koichi had set up a dojo. He wanted more commoners to be able to stand up for themselves. He had wanted to teach for free, but after much insistence from the townsfolk, he agreed to charge a small fee.

 
The six young men looked at each other, excited to be recognized by their master. If they had tails, it would be wagging non-stop.

 
Koichi looked carefully at each of them. “I’ve decided to call you KAT-TUN, using the initials in your name.”

 
Six pairs of eyes blinked back at him. “Why’s Kamenashi’s name first?!” Akanishi yelled. “Because I’m not Bakanishi, Bakanishi!” Kamenashi yelled back. Many other complaints erupted in the group, causing chaos.

 
Koichi let out a defeated sigh. This was going to be another headache for him. Tsuyoshi better have the hot bath ready for him when he gets back.

Tsuyoshi massaged soothing circles on Koichi’s temples. The samurai had his head resting on the shopkeeper’s lap. Off at the side, Nagase and the gang were polishing off another crate of sake. Hollers and wolf whistles rang out as Nagase’s clothes began to disappear piece by piece.

 
In the backyard, the sound of steel against steel rang out in between insults and retorts. KAT-TUN were practicing their new sword style, under the supervision of Takki and Tsubasa.

 
“How did it end up like this?” Koichi sighed, opening his eyes to look at Tsuyoshi.

 
Tsuyoshi gave his aikata a small smile. “You know you love them, Koichi-san.”

 
Koichi made a face. “I hate them… but I love you.”

 
The samurai’s eyes flew open as his words sank in. His eyes met Tsuyoshi’s.

 
Tsuyoshi quietly bent over and kissed Koichi lightly on the forehead.

Omake:

Johnny-san: YOU-tachi, I got a new script. You’ll all act in this dorama together!

*KinKi, V6 and TOKIO take some time to read the script*

Nagase: But I want to save Ko-chan and get a kiss!

Tsuyoshi: He’s the one doing the saving. I’m doing the kissing. You’ve got it mixed up.

Taichi: I have to be quiet for 6 whole chapters?! (O_O)

Mabo: Nope, you get 3 lines in Chapter 1 *points to script*

Leader: How do you play a shamisen? *strums a shamisen and snaps 2 strings*

Ken: Eeeh?! I don’t have any cute scenes! Actually, Okada and I only appear for 5 seconds!! Mou~! It’s not fair *wiggles his butt cutely*

*V4 shake their heads and look at Morita*

Morita: What?! I leashed him!

Okada: Oooh… that carving looks interesting *wanders off to the props being brought into the studio*

*V3 decide that ignorance is bliss*

Koichi: ‘We are noodle folk. Broth runs deep in our veins.’

All: Ko-chan, enough with the Kung Fu Panda impressions!

*Koichi looks dejected*

Tsuyoshi: *patpats Koichi’s head* I think it was very good…

Koichi: *perks up* Can I do it on the next Shin Domoto Kyoudai?

Tsuyoshi: ……. No.

Koichi: *big puppy eyes* Why not?

Tsuyoshi: I’m not going to be the panda.
